Analyze Literature: Author's Purpose In a news article, a reporter tries to provide the most important information about the article's subject. With a partner, compare the 5Ws Chart you began on page 113. Then work together to create a 5Ws Chart that identifies the most important details and main idea for the entire news article.
Reading Strategy: Determine Importance Often a main idea is implied, instead or stated directly in the text. With a partner, review a paragraph where you had difficulty deciding about the main idea. Find cues that point to the main idea that is implied.
